Chinoiserie engraved and knopped wine glass

Stock Number: 4286

This is what we believe to be a Georgian, Chinoiserie engraved facet cut stem wine glass dating from the late 18th century, c1790.

The glass is in excellent condition for its age.  It shows the age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot and the rim of the bowl consistent with some 200+ years of use.  It has a rough pontil mark on the foot which is nicely striated as is the bowl.

The glass has an ogee-shaped bowl measuring 5.6 cm (2.2 inches) in diameter at the rim.   The bowl is beautifully engraved with a Chinoiserie scene of a building among trees and sits on a diamond facet cut stem with a medial angular knop.  The stem leads to a large conical foot that measures 7.3 cm (2.9 inches) in diameter.  The glass is 14.5 cm (5.8 inches) in height.  A bubble has burst leaving a scar at the underside of the foot and this has been professionally filled with resin.  There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any other obvious evidence of restoration.

English lead glass.
