Hop & barley engraved dwarf ale glass. plain stem

Stock Number: 4714

This is what we believe to be a Georgian, hop and barley engraved, dwarf ale glass dating from the middle of the18th century, c1770.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age.  It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 250 years of use.  It has a rough pontil mark on the foot.
The glass has a funnel bowl measuring 5.7 cm (2.3 inches) in diameter at the rim.  The bowl is copper-wheel engraved with two barley ears in saltire (crossed) and a single hop to the reverse.  The bowl sits on a short plain stem with shoulder and basal swollen knops that lead to a conical which measures 6.2 cm (2.5 inches) in diameter.  The glass is 12.7 cm (5.1 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, scratches or any obvious signs of restoration. Collector's sticker to the base of the foot.
English lead glass.
Provenance: The Chris Heggadon collection.
