German goblet with engraved hunting scene

Stock Number: 4614

This is what we believe to be a late Georgian, German, engraved glass goblet dating from the turn of the 18th/19th centuries, circa 1800.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age.  It shows the age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot and the rim of the bowl consistent with over 200 years of use.  It has a rough pontil mark on the foot which is nicely striated as is the bowl.
The glass has a slightly waisted bucket-shaped bowl measuring 10.2 cm (4.1 inches) in diameter at the rim.   The heavy based bowl is wheel-engraved with a continuous hunting scene of a hound chasing a stag in countrysideand contains a well-worked air tear in the base.  The bowl sits on two cushion knops and an inverted baluster stem with an air tear running through it, that leads to a conical, folded foot which measures 11.2 cm (4.5 inches) in diameter.  The glass is 23.5 cm (9.4 inches) in height.  There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.    There are two small inclusions in the metal of the bowl.  It weighs 448 g. (~ 1 lb.).
A superb glass of its type.
