Scarce Georgian double series opaque twist ratafia glass

Stock Number: 5046

This is what we believe to be a Georgian, flute-moulded, double series opaque twist ratafia glass dating from the mid-18th century, c1765.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age.  It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 250+ years of use.  It has a rough pontil mark on the base of the foot.
The glass has a narrow funnel-shaped bowl measuring 4.7 cm (1.9 inches) in diameter at the rim.  The bowl is flute-moulded to the lower half and sits on a double series opaque twist stem consisting of ten "cotton" enamel strands wound around a central lace twist.  The stem leads to a conical foot which measures 7 cm (2.8 inches) in diameter.   The glass is 17.5 cm  (7 inches) in height.   It weighs 158 g. (~ 5 1/2 oz.).   There are no chips, cracks, other significant scratches or any obvious signs of restoration.   There are two collectors' stickers to the base of the foot.
English lead glass.
Provenance:  James Hall collection; Bonhams sale, 17 December 2008, lot 85
