Balustroid gin glass, folded foot

Stock Number: 4637

This is what we believe to be a Georgian, English, balustroid stem gin glass, dating from the early to middle 18th century, c 1740.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age.  This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the bowl and the rim of the foot consistent with years of use.
The glass has a bell-shaped bowl measuring 5.2 cm (2.1 inches) in diameter at the rim.  The bowl is plain and sits on an inverted baluster stem with basal cushion knop.  The stem ends in a conical, folded foot which measures 6.4 cm (2.6 inches) in diameter.  The glass is 12.3 cm (4.9 inches) in height.  There are no significant chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.  There is a swelling in the bowl dating from manufacture.
It is made from English lead metal, weighing in at 83 g. (~ 3 oz.).
