Baluster tazza, 24.5 cm

Stock Number: 4047

This is what we believe to be an English, Georgian, baluster tazza dating from the early 18th century, c1730.
The tazza is in excellent condition for its age.  This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot commensurate with 200+ years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the foot which is nicely striated as is the bowl.
The tazza has a shallow bowl measuring 24.3 cm (9.7 inches) in diameter at the rim.  The bowl sits on a collar, two merises, an annulated knop, and a true baluster. The stem leads to a domed and folded foot which measures 11 cm (4.4 inches) in diameter.  The tazza is 10.8 cm (4.3 inches) in height.  There is a very light scratch to the surface of about 4 cm in length.  There are no chips, cracks, other significant scratches or any evidence of restoration.   There are two unburst bubbles in the metal of the bowl.
It is made from good, grey, English lead metal.
Provenance: with Christopher Sheppard
