Baluster wine glass

Stock Number: 4844

This is what we believe to be a Georgian baluster wine glass dating from the early 18th century, c1730.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age.  It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 250+ years of use.  It has a rough pontil mark on the foot.
The glass has a heavy-bottomed bell-shaped bowl measuring 7.6 cm (3 inches) in diameter at the rim.  The bowl is plain and has a thick base containing an air tear.  The bowl sits on a short piece of plain stem, an inverted baluster containing a long, well-worked air tear and a basal swollen knop.  The stem leads to a conical, folded foot which also measures 7.6 cm (3 inches) in diameter.  The glass is 15.7 cm  (6.3 inches) in height.   It weighs 235 g. (~ 8 1/4 oz.).   There are no chips, cracks, scratches or any obvious signs of restoration.   There is a small inclusion in the metal of the bowl dating from manufacture.  There is a small collector's sticker to the base of the foot.
English lead glass.
