Engraved plain stem dram glass, fluted ovoid bowl

Stock Number: 3059a

This is what we believe to be a Georgian, engraved, plain stem dram glass dating from the end of the 18th century, c1790.

The glass is in excellent condition for its age.  This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to  the rim of the foot consistent with 200 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the foot.

The glass has a wrythen flute-moulded ovoid bowl measuring 5.5 cm (2.2 inches) in diameter at the rim.  The bowl is decorated with wheel engraved swags and tails to just below the rim.  The bowl sits on a short, extruded stem and a conical, thick, almost firing foot which measures 6 cm (2.4 inches) in diameter.  The glass is 10 cm (4 inches) in height. It weighs 125 gm.  There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.

It is made from English lead metal.
