Baluster oil lamp, folded drip tray foot

Stock Number: 4977

This is what we believe to be a Georgian baluster oil lamp (sometimes called a lacemaker's lamp) dating from the early to mid 18th century.  An identical example can be seen in Keith Kelsall's book, "Glass in 18th century England; The Open-Flame Lamp" in plate Q38.
The lamp is in excellent condition for its age.  This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot commensurate with some 200+ years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the foot which is nicely striated as is the bowl.
The lamp has a cup shaped reservoir, narrowing again to the rim, and measuring 7 cm (2.8 inches) in diameter at its fullest and measuring 5.5 cm (2.2 inches) in depth.  The reservoir sits on a thick, plain stem with medial and basal knops and leads to an upturned, drip tray, folded foot which measures 11.2 cm (4.5 inches) in diameter.  The lamp is 18.2 cm (7.3 inches) in height.  There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There is a collector's sticker to the base of the foot.
It weighs 296 g. (~ 10 1/2 oz.).
It is made from English lead metal.
