Vesica and Gothic arch engraved tumbler

Stock Number: 4919

This is what we believe to be an engraved, Georgian, tapered glass tumbler dating from the turn of the 18th/19th centuries, c1800.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age.  This means, of course, that it shows the age related wear and tear to both the rim of the bowl and to the rim of the foot consistent with some 200 years of use.
The glass has a bucket-shaped bowl measuring 9 cm (3.6 inches) in diameter at the rim.   The bowl is engraved with a tall band of Gothic arches to the lower half above which sits a band of engraved tulips and above that a band of hatched vesicas which may suggest an Irish origin (Cork).   The thick, slightly kicked in base measures 7 cm (2.8 inches) in diameter and carries a rough pontil mark.  The glass is 12 cm (4.8 inches) in height.  There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.
It is made from Anglo-Irish lead metal and weighs 267 g. (~ 9 1/2 oz.).
