Hop and barley engraved ale glass

Stock Number: 4672

This is what we believe to be a Georgian, hop and barley engraved, plain stem ale glass dating from the middle of the18th century, c1750.

The glass is in excellent condition for its age.  It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 250 years of use.  It has a rough pontil mark on the foot.

The glass has a funnel bowl measuring 6 cm (2.4 inches) in diameter at the rim.  The bowl is copper-wheel engraved with two barley ears in saltire (crossed) and a single hop to the reverse.  The bowl sits on a plain stem and leads to a conical, folded foot which measures 7.3 cm (2.9 inches) in diameter.  The glass is 15.7 cm (6.3 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, scratches or any obvious signs of restoration.

English lead glass.
