English large eight-sided pedestal stem wine glass

Stock Number: 4348

This is what we believe to be an English, Georgian, eight-sided pedestal stem wine glass dating from the early 18th century, c1735.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age.  It shows age related wear and tear to both the rim of the bowl and to the rim of the foot commensurate with over 250 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the foot.
The glass has a funnel bowl with a heavy base measuring 8.3 cm (3.3 inches) in diameter at the rim.  The bowl sits on a moulded eight-sided pedestal (Silesian or paneled if you prefer) stem with diamonds moulded to the top.  The stem leads to a deep basal collar and conical, folded foot which measures 8 cm (3.2 inches) in diameter.  The glass is 16 cm (6.4 inches) in height.  There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.  There are a couple of small inclusions in the metal of the bowl.  It weighs 217 g.
It is made from English lead glass.
