Flute-moulded double series opaque twist ale glass

Stock Number: 4690

This is what we believe to be a Georgian, flute-moulded double series opaque twist ale glass dating from the mid 18th century, c1765.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age.  It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 250 years of use.  It has a rough pontil mark on the foot.
The glass has an extended rounded funnel bowl measuring 5.6 cm (2.2 inches) in diameter at the rim.  The bowl is vertically flute-moulded to the lower half and sits on a double series opaque twist stem consisting of twelve "cotton" enamel strands wound around a central twist of two enamel cords.  The stem leads to a conical foot which measures 7.5 cm (3 inches) in diameter.  The glass is 19.6 cm  (7.8 inches) in height.   It weighs 178 g. (~ 6 1/4 oz.).   There are no chips, cracks, scratches or any obvious signs of restoration.   There is a large piece of white frit embedded in the metal of the edge of the foot dating from manufacture.
English lead glass.
