MIXED TWIST GLASSES

Mixed twist wine glasses are glasses with stems that combine elements of both air twist and opaque enamel twist.  In general terms opaque twist stems are thought to have followed air twist stems in terms of historical popularity.  For that reason many experts place mixed twist glasses as being transition glasses that were made at the end of the popular period for the air twist and the beginning of the popularity of the opaque twist.   Mixed twist glasses are relatively rare and the one on the right particularly so in that it shows a triple twist consisting of a single opaque enamel strand interleaved with a spiral air corkscrew and a central opaque enamel core.  The glass is nicely topped off with a fluted ogee bowl and it all sits on a conical foot.
